What is an Onlay or Inlay?
Onlays and inlays are designed to help improve how your smile looks. They can be thought of as smaller dental crowns, since they’re made of the same types of materials. The inlay or the onlay is placed over the top of the tooth, covering only the very top portion. Here at the Boutqiue for Cosmetic Dentistry, we are able to provide patients with gorgeous tooth-colored restorations.
Why would someone need an Onlay or Inlay?
There are a couple of reasons why we’d recommend that you have an onlay or an inlay placed. First, you might benefit from this option because a tooth has cracked or broken. You might need to restore a tooth with an older filling in it. The goal of the restoration is to improve how your smile looks using tooth-colored materials.
What makes someone a candidate for an Onlay or Inlay?
The best candidate for either a full onlay or a smaller inlay is someone who comes in for an exam. Dr. Azy will examine your teeth for signs of damage and then work to ensure that you are receiving the best care possible. It is important that you have the restoration placed to ensure that it is properly protecting the tooth.
What happens during the Onlay or Inlay process?
The first step is to file down any broken areas and cracks that could be present. We then work to improve the look of the tooth by taking impressions. The impressions are used by lab techs to carefully create the new onlay or inlay for you. Once this is done, we’ll have you come back into the office so that the brand new restoration can be placed just for you. The entire process takes very little time. You will be left with a restoration that has the ability to last for many years without it being a problem.
