Dr. Amara answers Google's TOP Dental Questions

Today Dr. Amara answers Google's TOP Dental Questions!

There are so many myths and misconceptions that people believe about their overall oral health, and we are here to debunk any of those questions you may have!

“Hey, I'm Dr. Amara here at Boutique for Cosmetic Dentistry. And today, let's talk about, "Google's Top Dental Questions." Let's start with the first one. Why do I need a dental exam? Your dental health correlates with your overall health, and it is very important to have a dental exam and cleaning every six months. It allows us to see if there is any gum disease, cavities, or any outstanding treatment that might need to be done before things get out of hand. It also allows you to spend less money in the long term because we are preventing problems from happening.

The next question. Do I really need to floss?

Yes, flossing is just as important as brushing. There are five surfaces to every tooth. And if you aren't flossing, you're missing two of your surfaces where bacteria can accumulate to plaque, and then cause any cavities or gum disease. So, the answer is, yes, floss the teeth that you want to keep.

What's the best way to whiten my teeth?

We get this question often. It depends. If you have long-term stains and you want to maintain white teeth, custom trays are the right option for you. They fit your teeth and your teeth only, and you have a solution gel to use at your own time at home. Another option is a great option, if you have a big upcoming event. You come in and we can do the in-office whitening, which is a stronger solution of whitening. But you still must maintain this with custom trays at home if you'd like to keep white teeth for the long term.

How do fillings work?

It's simple. If you have a fracture or a cavity in your tooth, the filling replaces that fracture or cavity in your tooth by filling in a portion of your tooth that has lost the tooth structure. We use composite resin material here at Boutique for Cosmetic Dentistry to fill back in the void of the tooth and make it what it once was in the beginning.
