Dental Veneers: What to expect before, during and after

The process of getting veneers will usually be spread out over a few different appointments:

1. The first appointment in getting dental veneers will be a consultation at our office. The dental assistant will take a series of x-rays and impressions. You can discuss the type of smile design that you are looking to achieve with Dr. Amara. We want to know exactly what you like and dislike about your current smile and what you want to change. After we have discussed your treatment plan you can either design your “try-in” shell or schedule your prep date.

2. At this appointment you will receive a “try in” shell of the veneers that you have designed with one of our smile experts. (Some patients skip this step and go right into the prepping) This step is best if you want to see a preview of your new smile before committing to treatment. The removable shell will fit right over your teeth. At this step after you try in your shell, you can discuss with your dentist if there are any changes you would like to make to the design, shape or color of your veneers.

3. The prepping stage – At this appointment, your dentist will begin prepping your teeth to get them ready for your veneers. Veneers fit right over your natural teeth so your teeth will need some adjustments before placing the veneer. The dental assistant will then take some new impressions of your prepped teeth. You will leave our office with temporary veneers while your final veneers are being designed at our cosmetic dental lab. It usually takes about 3-4 weeks before your final veneers are ready to seat.

4. After 3-4 weeks the final veneers will be finished. Your dentist will then seat the veneer with permanent cement. You will also be fitted with a night guard for extra protection so you don’t damage your veneers in your sleep.
